FAQs

What is pelvic floor physical therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy addresses any symptoms felt within and around your pelvis. It involves direct treatment, education and home exercise addressing any of the symptoms you are experiencing.

Do you accept insurance?

Perspectives Physical Therapy is a cash based out of network practice. Clients can submit an out of network claim to their insurance company with the information provided after each visit.

To make this even easier, Corinna is a provider aligned with Reimbursify. This is a free app where you can check you estimated insurance reimbursement as well as submit claims seamlessly. Please ask us if you have any insurance related questions!

Do I need a referral?

As per NY physical therapy practice acts, a referral from your MD, NP, Midwife … or other provider will be required after 10 visits or 30 days post the first visit.

What does an internal exam mean?

An internal pelvic floor exam requires a client’s consent and will not be performed if a patient is uncomfortable with an internal exam. The pelvic floor exam includes a manual check of your pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, endurance as well as an assessment of the quality and tone of the tissues of your pelvic floor.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes that you can move and exercise in. Shorts are preferred however anything that makes you feel comfortable to perform exercises.

What will happen at my first visit?

Your first and each visit thereafter will be a one on one therapy session. Your first visit will be 60 minutes. Each treatment after that will be 45 minutes. This can include a thorough discussion of your symptoms and history, a postural assessment, a strength and range of motion screen, a pelvic floor external and likely internal exam, and a discussion of your treatment plan and home exercise program.

What is the difference between a physical therapy appointment and a fitness consultation?

A fitness consultation is guided and supervised exercise session following ACOG recommendations for exercising while pregnant while also taking into account the changing aspects of a pregnant person’s body. Fitness consultations are one on one and take into account a client’s preferred style of exercise and adjusting as necessary for pregnancy. Physical therapy visits are aimed at resolving and rehabbing any symptoms or injuries a client incurs through client specific evaluation, treatment and exercise prescription.
